Silicone Compounds – For Textile Application

Introduction

Silicone Textile Treatment Compounds and Textile Treatment Specialty Compounds have been developed for use as water repellants lubricants softeners and feel improvers for natural and synthetic fibers and fabrics.

Properties
  • These Compounds provide excellent water repellency without impairing the breathing properties of the fabric.
  • These Compounds softening agents produce specific hand effects, along with substantial improvements in the mechanical properties of the fabric.
  • Sewing thread lubricants enhance the sliding properties and thermal resistance of the thread thereby improving sews ability and luster.
Application

Application of these Compounds generally involves treatment from the aqueous phase. They are therefore supplied as aqueous silicone emulsions. Can be applied on,

  • Viscose Rayon
  • Acetate Rayon
  • Nylon Fabrics
  • Polyester Cotton Blends
  • Cotton
  • Acrylic etc.

Silicone based thread lubricants improve the slip of the thread surface and increase its heat resistance. The surface gloss is increased, the sewing characteristic improved and the thread does not break often.

General Method of Usage

The emulsions are diluted with soft, ambient temperature water to obtain a concentration of 10 to 20 times. The pH of the finishing bath is adjusted to 5.5 and catalysts, if required are added. The fabric is impregnated with the silicon emulsions by padding and the fabric is dried at 100o C to 120o C and cured at 150o C for 5 min. or shock at 180o C for 20-30 secs.

Caution

Fabrics should be free from sizing agents and alkalinity before siliconization, as the pickup on the fabric is adversely affected.
